It should come as no surprise that a company which sends mailers in the hope of doing business with you, by telling you the service coverage on a car you sold over 5 years ago is possibly about to expire.
Yes, it's true. A Ford Ranger truck I owed but sold in 2005, Car Safe had asked me to extend coverage on. Since this is actually (and apparently a surprise to them even though they are meant to be fully aware of all the laws that govern them) a violation of a seemingly little known FTC rule which states that if you give an offer of services on a consumer or business' tangible property, you must verify the property has not been sold, traded or disposed of more than 36 calendar months prior to the date of offer. If it has been sold, traded or disposed of (Which in this case a simple check (Which is free of charge with the Virginia DMV)), would have shown that said vehicle was no longer owned by me and had ceased to belong to me as of December of 2005. Therefore, contrary to what their floor supervisor seemed to think, they were breaking the law.
Not to mention that the State of Missouri (Where they do business from) has had the Attorney General file a lawsuit against their firm stating that they are using deceptive practices against consumers (A warning the Better Business Bureau had previously made known to them but was ignored). Hopefully the State will find it just to shut Car Safe down and throw each of the violators in prison where they belong. Especially their floor supervisor who seems to like acting like he has a chicken stuffed up his rear end and wants to whine and moan at anyone who tells him off.
Don't worry. I too recorded the conversation which is now on YouTube for anyone to hear. So a word of advice to businesses who might be considering hiring the guy after he's lost his job with Car Safe. Don't. He is not a good match for customer service and will just ruin your reputation with your customers.
